8 Days Bale Mountains Trekking

SUMMARY OF THE TOUR:

This treks takes you in the largest afro alpine habitat in the whole of Africa so Bale mountains national park covers the largest afro alpine habitat in the whole of Africa. It is an area of high altitude plateau that is fragmented by the numerous remarkable volcanic plugs and peaks, beautiful alpine lakes and mountain streams that run down in the deep rocky and gorges on their way to the lowlands .It is heaven for various endemic mammals including Ethiopian wolf, Mountain Nyala, Bale monkey and many endemic birds.

There are peaks wich rise more than 4000m and mount Tullu Deemtu wich an altitude of 4377 above sea level, is the second highest peak in Ethiopia. The Bale Mountains secluded in their high mountains remain to be unspoiled and exceptionally beautiful. It gives a wonderful trekking opportunity for those who seek a unique trekking experience in the isolated mountains of Ethiopia. Trekking in the Bale Mountains gives the trekker the chance to interact with the local community and witness their culture and the way of life of Oromo people.

 Day 1: Arrive Addis Ababa, Bole international airport.

Arrive at Addis Ababa and be welcomed by Bale Mountains Tours Ethiopia representative and transferred to your hotel.

Overnight Addis Ababa – Hotel.

Day 2: Drive Addis Ababa – Ethiopian rift valley – Dinsho.

After breakfast drive through Ethiopian great rift valley enroute enjoying the rift valley lakes and the spectacular mountain scenery.

The rest of the day, walk around the junipers forest around the park headquarter and explore the area where high concentration of the antelope families such as Mountain Nyala, Menelik Bushbuck and Bohor Reedbuck seen easily and other mammals are found.

Day 3: Dinsho – Web valley – Sodota camp.

Trek for 5 – 6 hours pass through the lovely web valley and outstanding the beautiful waterfall. Here it’s the chance to see raptors and Ethiopian Wolf.

Day 4: Trek from Sodota – Meraro valley – Wassema.

Trek for 5 -6 hours breath taking  of meraro valley wich offers the the chance to see the nests of Lammergier and Verreaux Eagle. The air here is so clean and crisp and the scenery utterly stunning of wassema valley then camping at the base of wassema mount.

Day 5: Trek   Wasema – Gerbaguracha.

Today we trek through the highlands of Bale Mountains  crossing Batu mountain(4307m asl) on the way to Gerbaguracha wild flowers abound, the dominant plant being the Helichrysum or everlasting flowers. The everlasting plant can be seen in several forms, but the grey bushes of Helichrysum splendidum are the most striking with their yellow flowers. Several rodent species are found in the area.

Over night – Camping.

Day 6: Sanetti – Harenna forest – Goba.

After breakfast we trek for two to three hours to the main road to met vehicle then drive to the highest peak in Bale Mountains, Tullu Deemtu (4377m, 14357 ft) wich is part of the sanetti plateau. The vistas are simply unbelievable and so photogenic. Here you will find endangered Ethiopian wolf, small alpine lakes and typical afro alpine vegetation that includes the Giant Lobelia and shrub such as everlasting. Next proceed to Harenna forest (the largest tropical rainforest in Africa) chance to see primate species such as Coloubus monkey and endemic Bale monkey. After that drive back to Goba through sanetti plateau.

Day 7: Drive to Sof omer cave – Goba.

Today after breakfast continuing to driving southeast of Bale Mountains, 125km from Goba. Sofomer is one of the longest underground cave in Africa, with a total length of over 1.5metre. The meandering Web River lies in an entrenched George, 150m below sea level basalt plateau. In the late afternoon drive back to Goba Wabeshebellee hotel for overnight.

Day 8: Drive back to Addis for evening departure.

Drive back to Addis Ababa with stops on the way to Asella Arsi region for lunch stop. Evening a fare well dinner party in one of the traditional Ethiopian restaurant with dances from different ethnic groups. Then transfer to the airport for your flight back home depending on your schedule.
